2023 was a busy year for Hunter Ageing Alliance, we not only embraced the challenges but thrived with remarkable achievements and initiatives. The collaborative venture, Connections for Ageing Well, stood as a testament to the power of partnerships, uniting the Hunter Ageing Alliance with the City of Newcastle Council and Hunter Medical Research Institute to deliver five group workshops held in friendly and relaxed settings and presented by guest presenters who provided information that is interesting and relevant to today’s world.
Additionally, the launch of the ActiveStrongerBetter program marked a significant milestone, boasting 30 thriving exercise programs across Newcastle and the Hunter region, securing AUSactive Professional Accreditation along the way.
The Housing for Older Persons Project (HOPP) emerged as a cornerstone, bringing together private and public sector representatives in a successful inaugural stakeholder event in November.
The Alliance also contributed to valuable resources, including the development of a FREE eBook on End of Life Law in Australia by Catherine Henry Lawyers.
Furthermore, the recognition of Dr. John Ward as the NSW Senior Australian of the Year 2024 and Professor Julie Byles as the City of Newcastle Senior Citizen of the Year underscored the impactful presence of the Hunter Ageing Alliance in 2023.
As we reflect on these accomplishments, the Alliance eagerly looks forward to the promising initiatives and collaborations that 2024 will bring.
