Letter to Hon. David Elliott MP, Minister for Police regarding Aged Crime Police Officers

A recent national survey of 7000 people over 65 living in the community revealed a prevalence of 15%. This is likely to be an underestimate as people are reluctant to admit to abuse and people with cognitive impairment were not included in the survey.

In addition, one of the more startling findings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and safety was that almost 40% of residents in residential aged care have been the subject of physical, sexual or emotional abuse.
